Puppet Kaos - where Kelvin Kao plays with puppets and tell random stories

Down the Memory Lane

I was reading a tutorial about use of video monitors on and a Muppet Show sequence was mentioned. It was called “Down Memory Lane” and I went ahead and found it on Youtube. This is where Gonzo sang about walking down the memory lane without a thing to remember. I was pretty amused, because while unaware of the existence of his song, I’ve joked about the topic before. I’ve thought about… what if someone is walking down the memory lane, but he’s actually pretty forgetful? Does he just try hard to remember, or does he just come up with things to fill the gap somehow? What if he’s trying to tell a story about his past to other people? Anyway, I’ve thought about turning the concept into a script, but I couldn’t come up with a good story for it. If you want it, feel free to run with the concept.

Anyway, the puppet popping in and out is an interesting technique that can create good comical effects. Well, actually, it doesn’t have to be a puppet. It’s just easier to do with puppets.

Oh, and after I watched the video, I saw a related video called Mahna Mahna. It also happened to be a very good example of popping in and out. I was pretty entertained by that one as well.
