Not sure if they have a specific target audience in mind. TV puppetry like this was very popular decades ago when there were only 3 TV channels in Taiwan. Back then they reach 100% rating pretty much all the time. Of course, that's no longer possible with so many cable channels nowaday. Now they do rentals. Back then they were VHS tapes, and then VCDs, and now DVDs. Two episodes come out every week so their income sources are: the DVD rentals, the merchandises (soundtracks, calendars, puppets, random souveniors, etc.) and commercials on their own cable channel. So with the traditional way it's viewed and the current business model, they pretty much want to market to everyone. Of course, there are different emphasis on different segment of the market, but I don't know the details.

When a series have gone on for 20+ years, it just has to get more and more epic to out-do itself. The story is a constant battle between good and bad, heroes and villains. There has been kung-fu masters, ninjas, vampires, aliens, demons, countless possible apocalypses that might be the end of the world, and it just keeps going and going and going.

Wow. They get much more epic stuff than we do. Do you know what the target audience is for a show like this?
