Violet!! Yea!!

I love this story, because it made me laugh. Right now, I prefer that to intellectual pursuits, so I feel a bit of kinship with the king. I think he might like to hear stories about cats that play magic pianos, or perhaps tequila that drinks itself. I like the working title just fine, although Rosa's idea is good. Random things...oh, a million and one buttons, a coconut or two, a tree that sings in the dark....

@Rosa: Hm, I do like that it's shorter.

@Melissa: Yeah, I met a Jane last weekend. I just read a blog post from someone who wrote a novel with main character named Jane. And then you mentioned Jane. I thought that's enough reasons to call her Jane. And I am totally not being hard on myself. Instead I am just making sure that I have all the freedom to make the stories as dumb as possible and get away with it. :-P

Oh, I am really bad with endings too, so what I am going to do is keep the story going. If it doesn't ever get to the conclusion, then I don't have to deal with it! And of course, I can also use a very stupid ending, haha.

Shagua actually means idiot in Chinese, by the way. I picked it because it sounds like something from an unknown origin but has a different layer of meaning built into it anyway. My plan is to avoid races, ages, facial features, etc. until I feel like writing about it (or until I actually figure it out, rather).

You used the name Jane! I LOVE the name Shagua! See, you're way better at names than I am. For a title, how about "The Royal Storyteller." The story is not dumb at all. Don't be so hard on yourself. I think it's quite clever, and it made me laugh several times. The hard part is coming up with a clever ending. That's always where I get stuck with short stories. I have one that I wrote - oh - maybe fifteen years ago, and I still haven't come up with an ending that fits. I think maybe you need to lengthen the story's ending. What is the story Jane tells him, and how does he react? That's what the audience is waiting to find out. Good luck!
